WARNINGS:

GENERAL:

The story of Bioshock: Infinite takes place primarily in the floating city of Columbia, which was designed to be a fantastic utopia of religious extremism led by a hellfire fanatic named Zachary Hale Comstock. As a result, discussions of the world that Robert comes from, and his past history spent in Columbia, may raise topics of the setting's racism, racial/socioeconomic violence, sexism, period-typical misogyny, religious extremism, baby theft/child abuse, alcoholism, Stockholm syndrome, and related Pretty Dark Topics™. In short, it's a pretty ugly and understandably squicky set of circumstances, and I completely understand how such references could make people uncomfortable if those topics were to come up in threads. While it is my intention to keep those themes as downplayed as possible, and warned for where they may arise, I definitely want to give people the opportunity to opt out and avoid them entirely!

In light of that, however, if you would prefer that Robert not tag your character entirely, please use this post to let me know here! If you're fine with tagging him but there are aspects of the above-referenced circumstances that you would prefer I avoid, please also let me know, and I'll happily tailor his gameplay to whatever makes his tagging partners most comfortable.

ON THE LUTECES IN PARTICULAR:

In Bioshock: Infinite, the theme of parallel universes is employed and explored at length — what stays the same between universes, what differs between them, and how choices made at various junctures can influence the events of those universes.

Robert and Rosalind Lutece are a quintessential byproduct of this theme: they are in fact the same person from two different universes, albeit with a single chromosome flipped between the two. In the period of time before the events of Bioshock: Infinite, Robert and Rosalind made contact with each other from their respective universes, and upon becoming aware of each other, they set about figuring out how to rip open a hole in reality to try to bring the two of them together into the same universe instead.

Canon presents the relationship between the Luteces as one of extreme narcissism put into practice, and their general obsession with each other does sometimes canonically blur the lines of their relationship between platonic and romantic. If you would prefer to avoid this aspect of the Luteces' relationship, please let me know using this post, and keep me advised of your comfort level with respect to it! For further elaboration on what precisely the history and interplay between Robert and Rosalind is like, there is more information in his application, or feel free to ask me!
